I have arbitrarily changed the date in my data to 28 February (the last day of the month), and am seeking further proof of his date of birth.

General Notes: Frank Raney was the only child of Martin Greenberry RANEY and Mary Frances BRYANT MURRAY. Both his parents had been previously married and widowed.

Frank was the recipient of his mother's portion of her father's land holdings. The Bryant Station cemetery, where Frank and others are
buried, is the only remaining indication of the location of Bryant's Fort or Bryant Station as it came to be known. The cemetery was in some proximity to the homeplace, as his daughter Verna Bradford RANEY, grandmother of this writer, remarked several times in speaking of childhood memories, that she could see the cemetery on her way "down to the river".

Frank RANEY first appears on a census as a family man in 1880. He gave his occupation as "farmer". He continued to report this occupation until the 1910 census, at which time he had moved from the farm into the town of Buckholts, Texas, and reported his occupation as Retail Merchant. Also in 1910, his household included, besides his three youngest children, his granddaughter Eloise ROBINSON, daughter of Myrl RANEY ROBINSON.

Birth Notes: I base Eula's approximate date of birth on the fact that my grandmother, Verna Raney, b 11 Feb 1885, spoke to me occasionally of Eula, and always remarked that Eula was her older sister. As Zoie was the eldest child, and Verna was the next-eldest surviving child, Eula's date of birth would have had to fall somewhere between those of Zoie and Verna.

Death Notes: I base Eula's approximate date of death on the following anecdote: Verna Raney, my grandmother, born 11 February 1885, remembered that her older sister Eula became very ill, and the extended family had gathered at her parents' home. Eula was ill enough that everyone had gathered outside the house, so that Eula could rest more peacefully inside. My grandmother remembered falling off the porch, and hitting her head. It hurt (and she was probably a little embarrassed for doing it in front of all the relatives) and she cried. My grandmother remembered that one of her aunts came and picked her up to comfort her, and in trying to shush her remarked that she should not cry because Eula could have heard her through the open windows. The aunt remarked that hearing my grandmother cry would make Eula's "head hurt worse." My grandmother remembered that Eula died shortly after this incident. My grandmother believed her own age to have been about 5 years when this happened (ie., circa 1890). She did not know the exact cause of Eula's death, but was sure it was an illness and not an injury.

Death Notes: This date is from a loose newspaper clipping found between the pages of my grandfather's family Bible, which is in my possession, and which came to me through the family. My grandmother, Myrl's sister, spoke several times to me about the loss of her sister, who drowned in the river near their home while on a picnic with her husband.

General Notes: Lester's exact birth and death dates have been lost, and there is no extant grave marker in the Bryant Station Cemetery, where he would have been buried. However, my grandmother, Verna Raney Williams, always included a child named Lester among the names of her siblings, and remarked that he had died as an infant.
