Her earliest memories were of living on a ranch in a "dog run" cabin that was common to pioneer resident of Texas in the 1800s, playing with her grandfather Neill and riding to the community school with her father in a horse and buggy. Growing up as an only child, her main friends and playmates were a cousin, Leon Tumlinson, as well as numerous cousins from the Brite family, including Bessie, whom she considered a sister. With the onset of the Great Depression, the family moved to the nearby community of Pleasanton to supplement their farm and ranch income. In Pleasanton she attended the local school, was active in the Baptist church and worked at a variety of jobs to help support her family. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1933 at the age of 15. She attended Baylor College for Women (now Mary Hardin-Baylor) for three years before economics-primarily tuition costs, and the need to continue supporting her family -forced her to return home, where she taught English, Spanish and other subjects at schools in Pleasanton and Dobrowolski. At a Methodist youth party she met Bert Williams. The couple was married on April 30, 1937. But they had to keep their marriage a secret, as school policy at the time forbade teachers from being married, and she would have lost her job. She still needed to help support her parents, as a baby brother, Bob, was born in September that year. Bert established an insurance agency in the 1940s. On April 23, 1963, Dieliew lost Bert to a heart attack, one week shy of their 26th wedding anniversary. Dieliew was left to run the insurance agency in an era where a woman's place was anyplace except the head of a business. Despite this challenge Dieliew not only kept the agency intact but also grew the business, as well as raise her children. In October 1968 she married Elmer H. "Bud" Eddy, a transplanted "Yankee" from Vermont who was a longtime Pleasanton civic leader who had recently sold his business. Dieliew and he ran the insurance agency for a decade. Dieliew and Buddy maintained an active retirement traveling. They maintained a large vegetable garden and canned their produce. As grandparents, they became excellent babysitters. Bud died in October 1998, two weeks after their 30th wedding anniversary. Dieliew enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and writing letters. Her pecan pies and lemon and sugar cookies were legendary family favorites. She was proud of her Texas heritage and was pleased to hold membership in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Her family loves and admires her for the lessons she taught by her life, especially her love and devotion to family and her perseverance in adverse times and conditions. To quote Proverbs 31, "her children rise up and call her blessed." Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marcy and Charles Porter of Pasadena; son and daughter-in-law James B. and Susan Williams of Peoria, Illinois; son John Williams of Austin; stepson Hermon Eddy of Ellicott City, Maryland; step-daughter-in-law Helen Eddy of Elkridge, Maryland; step-daughter and son-in-law Betsy and Wayne Lund of Gardner, Massachusetts; lifetime friends Dolly Harrell of Austin, Lola Fae Showers and Lucie Howell of Pleasanton and Maureen Perkins of Jourdanton; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jack and Bob Neill; her cousins Leon Tumlinson, Ralph Brite and Rita Vickers; lifetime friends Evelyn and Darrell Scott, Frankie Maverick and Dennis Showers; and her beloved "sister," Bessie Brite Cutcher.

Bob Neill began his career in education in the San Marco schools where he taught and coached for three years. The last thirty years of his career were with the Clear Creek Independent School District. He helped open Clear Lake High School in 1972 where he served as an assistant principal until his retirement in 1995. Bob loved teenagers, and was loved and respected by them. Mr. Neill had a positive influence on hundreds of students. He had a special way of encouraging everyone to nurture the best in themselves. Upon his retirement he said, "I've always felt that I have gotten more out of my years at CLHS than I put in. I sincerely hope that all of you have avocation someday that is as rewarding to you as CLHS has been to me". Many former students, loving friends and family have provided a huge network of support through these five months of illness. Euripides said, "When a good man is hurt, all who would be called good suffer with him." Bob is survived by his wife, Janie, a son, James Robert Neill, a daughter, Nancy Lyn Clark, a step-daughter, Sondra Thomas, a step-son, Rick Whitehead and four granddaughters, Relene Neill, Jessica Thornton, Emily Whitehead and Sara Grace Whitehead and a sister, Dieliew Eddy. The family is establishing the Bob Neill Scholarship Fund to provide a scholarship each year to a Clear Lake High School senior. Donations to this fund are requested in lieu of flowers.
